Overview

Ten days immersed in the rich history and beauty of Sicily. You will explore extraordinary archaeological sites and historic cities with exceptional guides. Sicily is also a place of great natural beauty — you’ll enjoy the island’s spectacular scenery and prominent gardens such as Villa Malfitano in Palermo, Il Giardino del Biviere di Lentini and Il Giardino Pubblico di Taormina. Our tour culminates in a visit to Mount Etna, Europe’s largest, active volcano. Sicily’s unique culinary and winemaking traditions will also be a focus, with a cooking demonstration, wine tasting, and delectable meals at local trattorias.

Day 1 - Welcome to Palermo

Friday, October 26

Late Morning: Arrival in Palermo. Transfer to Palermo city center. Meet your tour director, Tommaso Panté at Hotel. Check-in to your 4-star hotel, your home for the next three nights. Enjoy an orientation walk of Palermo with Tommaso.

Evening: Welcome reception at the private residence of a Count and Countess at  their private palazzo in the historical center of Palermo.

Day 2 - Palermo, Sicily’s Beautiful Capital City

Saturday, October 27

Morning: Walking tour of Palermo center with local, licensed guide:

• Church of San Domenico (exterior)

• The “Quattor Canti”

• La Martorana Church

• Piazza Pretoria

• Church of San Giuseppe dei Teatini

• Palermo's Cathedral

Afternoon: Spend the rest of the day exploring Palermo on your own. We suggest a visit to the Palatine Chapel or the “Capo” Market, one of the oldest markets of Arab origins.

Evening: Dinner on your own.

Day 3 - Palermo–Monreale–Segesta–Palermo

Sunday, October 28

Morning: Depart south of Palermo for Monreale. Discover the Byzantine beauty, Norman splendor and Arab symmetry of Monreale's medieval Cathedral with its beautiful Benedictine Cloister.

Afternoon: Depart from Monreale to Segesta and lunch at a local agriturismo. Visit the temple of Segesta, one of the best-preserved Greek temples in the world. Late afternoon: Return to Palermo.

Evening: Dinner on your own.

Day 4 - Palermo-Agrigento

Monday, October 29

Morning: Depart for Agrigento and check-in to your 5-star hotel, for one  night.

Afternoon: Walking tour with specialized guide of the Valley of the Temples.  Explore the most outstanding examples of Greek architecture:

• Temple of Zeus

• Temple of Juno

• Temple of Concordia

Evening: Dinner at hotel.

Day 5 - Piazza Armerina - Syracuse

Tuesday, October 30

Morning: Depart for Agrigento to Piazza Armerina. Walking tour of the Villa Romana del Casale with an expert local guide. The Villa Romana del Casale is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, containing the richest, largest and most complex collection of late Roman mosaics in the world.

Afternoon: Depart for Syracuse and check-in to your 4-star hotel for 2 nights. Informal introduction to the Island of Ortigia, the heart and historical center of Syracuse, with guide Tommaso.

Evening: Dinner at a local trattoria.

Day 6 - The historic city of Syracuse

Wednesday, October 31

Morning: Visit Syracuse's archeological site with a local guide. Syracuse is famous for its rich Greek history, culture, amphitheatres and architecture. Return to Syracuse center for lunch on your own.

Afternoon: Walking tour of the Island of Ortigia with local guide followed by free time to shop or relax.

Evening: Dinner on your own.

Day 7 - Syracuse-Taormina

Thursday, November 1

Morning: Depart for Taormina with en route stop for a private lunch with cooking presentation in the countryside near Catania.

Afternoon: Arrival in Taormina, described by Goethe as “a corner of paradise”. Check-in to your 4-star hotel, your home for the next 3 nights.

Evening: Dinner on your own.

Day 8 - Taormina-Mount Etna-Taormina

Friday, November 2

Morning: Excursion to Mount Etna, Europe’s largest active volcano, with Tommaso as your guide.

Afternoon: Lunch and wine tasting. Spend the rest of the day at leisure in Taormina.

Evening: Dinner on your own.

Day 9 - Taormina

Saturday, November 3

Morning: Walking tour of charming Taormina with guide, Tommaso.  Tour will also include the stunning Giardino Pubblico di Taormina with beautiful views of Mount Etna and the Mediterranean sea.  The gardens were created in the late19th century by Lady Florence Trevelyan, an avid botanist. In this public garden you will find beautiful plants and buildings known as the Victorian follies built of brick and lava rock, as well as ancient Greek and Roman stones and tree trunks.

Afternoon: Free time to explore Taormina on your own.

Evening: Farewell dinner at a local trattoria.

Day 10 - Early morning transfer to the Catania airport.
End of tour.
